Question Which Ignition Coil Accel or MSD?

I have a 1997 Z28 with 79,000 miles on it. I need a coil.

The Accel Coil has a primary resistance of 0.2 Ohms and Secondary resistance of 6.7k Ohms. Output 48,000 Volts. Part#140024. Price 41.95

MSD has a primary resistance of 0.5 Ohms and Secondary resistance of 6.5k Ohms. Output 40,000 Volts. Part#8231. Price $39.99

What do you think? Both Coils will bolt up to stock position.

Thanks Lee!

I had a MSD coil and it only lasted 13 months!! IMHO, it's a piece of junk. I'm back to using the stock coil.

Why do you need a coil? Have you diagnosed that yours is bad? The 96-97 factory coils are good ones. I doubt you will see any benefit from buying an aftermarket coil.

You won't see any difference performance wise going with an aftermarket coil. So if that's your angle and you know for a fact that you really do need one, just get a stock replacement. I haven't heard anything about the accel coil, but I've heard the MSD Blaster coil is pretty good. Until the above post that is.

As mentioned above the only difference you will notice among the MSD, Accel and the oem coils is the price.

No Valkyn71, The 96-97 LT1's coil wont fit in the 93-95 modles to the best of my knowledge.

although I could be wrong. The reason 96-97 has a single connector coil while the 93-95 has Dual connector.

Have a goodone Lee.

The wiring harness is different, but it could be done. I just don't think it would make a big difference.

I believe thats the other way around. 93-95 are single and 96-97 are dual connector. Plus the stock coil is a damn good coil, the aftermarket ones dont provide any benefit from what I've read, plus I cant really see why they would anyway.

Ok, so if you have to replace it for maintenance reasons, get whatever is cheaper. They will all be comparable.
