ignition coil in 1997 SS

I have a question and hopefully some one can answer it for me.I recently bought a crane hi-6s ignition along with the coil and harness.well i was under the hood and noticed my coil had only one connecter comming off beside the coil wire going to the opti-spark.the connecter has a pink wire and a green wire.i look in my chilton book and it shows a picture of a coil with two connecters and a total of four wires and so does the wire diagram.my question is this.why is my car set up like that, does any one else have that set up and if so what igniton parts do they make for it.well that was like three questions.my friend said it might be because i have an lt-4 in the car.i dont know, does any have any help.

thank-you

1996/1997 have single connector coils. Perhaps you got a pre-1996 two connector coil by mistake.

Shoebox, I hate to steal this thread but I have a quick question you might be able to answer I'm in the process of hooking up a shiftlight in my car and the instructions say that I can use the negative primary coil wire lead instead of the tach output lead to run the shiftlight. Now the question is: on my '97 I also have just a pink and green wire in my primary side coil connector, do you know what color wire is the negative??? TIA for any replies

Well the pink is power, so it won't be that one. However, I cannot tell you for sure that the other will actually work. On an old style coil they only had a "+" and "-" terminal. The one I know you can use is the PCM, C1 (red) connector, pin 13 (white wire) for engine speed output. You can find that wire in the passenger kick panel in the blue connector (C230), cavity "D".

Shoebox, thanks for the info!!! Since we know the pink wire is power, it must (by process of elimination???), be the green wire that closes the coil primary circuit and pulses the coil to achive the seconary voltage. I'll try hooking up the shiftlight to the green wire, and, if that doesn't work, I'll go for the Tach output wire you suggested.

Thanks again,
