Disconnect the electrical connector to the compressor, so it doesn't turn on and run "dry".

Get it charged back up after you fix it, I can't imagine that the closed system would like to be exposed to the elements with it broken and letting air and moisture in.

It comes on in all but two settings on the climate control (only floor and only vent). All other settings it activates.

If you broke a line you already lost enouf pressure to where you cant engage the compressor. It will spin but its not working the clutch did not engage unless you still have good high/low pressure. You dont need to unhook anything. if you turn ac or the car on nothing will happen.

Thats a great point, and you're right. Don't worry about disconnecting anything, if the pressure is significantly lost.
