idler pulley(belt tensioner) going south

what does it sound like when it is going bad. how much does the pulley usually cost? is it hard to change? i have never messed with that stuff before so im new at it

The belt tensioner is easy to change. Its like 2 bolts. Just jack up the car and crawl under it and you should see it. You need to remove the belt first .

Btw- what makes you think your tensioner is bad? If its squeeking make sure its not your alternator bearings going bad. A bad tensioner usually eats up belts & alternators.

Does your belt feel loose? That would be the first sign of a bad tensioner.
