idle rpm's low and so is oil pressure

Both of the guages are accurate, after being tested @ the dealership. It idles at about 600 or 700, and the oil pressure is about 8 psi. This is only after being warmed up however. When the motor is cold, rpm's at idle are a notch above 1000 maybe 1100 and the oil pressure is about 45psi. A shot in the dark by one of the mechanics said that he felt it was the bearings. Any input ?

in the camaro manual it says that would be OK but I would not like that if my oil pressure was that low since my oil pressure is about 22-23 psi on idle when hot. Most likely its the bearings, hows your oil pressure when you are driving (1500 rpms)?

That would be my guess.... possibly cam bearings. Otherwise, make sure the pickup isn't clogged and the pump is working.

When driving down the highway at about 2000 rpms, about 65 or 70mph, the pressure is fine, around 35-40. However, when i come to a stop the rpms drop and so does the oil pressure. Maybe it could be the oil?

Why do you think the idle RPM is low? What did your programmer set it at?

The idle is stock - 550/650 for gear/neutral when fully warmed up. This is due to the fact that your engine is internally stock. You can have it raised, but that won't change the fact that you have 8psi of pressure at ~600-700 RPM.

And 600-700rpm on the stock tach is probably 550rpm on a scanner, so your idle isn't low.... it only your oil pressure that's dropping.

What grade of oil are you using? What filter are you using?

Re: idle rpm's low and so is oil pressure

the oil is mobil 1 synthetic, and the filter is a Fram. I have a small leak in the low oil sensor, and a small leak coming off the back of the motor. Also, the ECT sensor got broken off when the s/c belt blew off, and made the car super hard to start. The mechanic said it was loading the crank case full of fuel, we smelled the oil on the dipstick and did some minor checks, but it seemed to be fine. I think I will change the oil, and filter, and fix the oil sensor with a new one to see if it helps. Could that be the problem? It has always had low oil pressure at idle, but it doesnt want to climb above 40psi even with wot. But, from a cold startup, it is at appx 50 psi, until it warms up. Hmm...any thoughts?
