Idle Question
Idle Question
almost every morning when i start up the car it will idle at a grand and will fall to 300-400rpm. It will not stall out but it will idle back up and keep idling back down. Once the motor is warm has no other probs when i start it again. Someone told me could be the air position sensor?.. near the thorttle position sensor. they said to get to it and clean it out with wd 40.
ANy suggestions..

That would be the idle air control (IAC) valve. On the plate bolted to the bottom of the throttle body. If you had a scanner, you could check the "IAC counts" to see if the PCM is responding properly to the low idle speeds. Lacking a scanner, cleaning the valve might be worth the effort. The passages in the throttle body may also need a cleaning.
Use throttle body cleaner, not WD-40. Do not get an excessive amount "inside" the part of the valve where the pintle mounts, or you might mess up the electronics. Do not attempt to move the pintle while you are cleaning it.
