Idle issues

I have a 95 camaro with an lt1. I have to make a signature but havent yet. I have a le2 heads and cam, tpis 58mm throttle body the revised one with isolated iac passage, golen 383, vigilante 3600 stall, and torque head 24x system, kooks headers into a catted y pipe.

When I start the car it wants to run a 1500 rpms till it gets hot. I hate trouble getting it to idle at 800 rpms but I think I may have that solved as it wanted to idle at 500 to 600. Now I just need to get the cold idle down to 1100 how the tunner has it set.

I'm also looking for a good scanning program for the 24x system and I need a new cable as my 95 stuff doesn't work anymore. So any suggestions there are greatly appreciated

Re: Idle issues

Torquehead uses an LS1 PCM. You have to use an OBD-2 scanning tool compatible with that PCM. You can't use your 1995 OBD-1 stuff.

Yeah I know which kinda sucks because I'm all set up for it. I'm trying to figure out what software to get right now. The car finally through a ses light. So I have something to work off of now. It also developed a small miss so hopefully the ses light points me in the right direction.

Re: Idle issues

I would guess that HPTuners has scanning and programming software. But that's about the limit of my knowledge of scanning the LS1 24X 12200411 PCM, if that's what you are using. Not a lot of people here using the 24X systems that I am aware of, maybe a couple. There seems to be a larger number on ltxtech.com

I'll see if one of our LS1 owners with a good knowledge of scanning software and hardware can hep.

Re: Idle issues

For just viewing the parameters, I recommend the Tech 2 clones from China, about $300. But that one does not do much datalogging. I don't really have a good feel for the OBD2 packages.

I did buy the AutoEnginuity one long ago and it did work for my 98 LS1 but there were some errors and I even had to notify them of the errors (which they did fix). Regardless of what the site says, I don't think that package supports many bidirectional controls or the ABS/SIR/BCM modules for my 98, but then my version is several years old and those modules are not OBD2 on a 98.

Auto Enginuity- All GM Car & Trucks: OEM OBD-II Software Module Bundled Together with ST06

Another cheaper one (Under $200 with GM enhanced option), with even less support is the PPE (Palmer Performance Engineering) ScanXL. The pro version is mostly hardware expansion, not really needed for this car.

https://www.palmerperformance.com/pr...anxl/index.php

For both of these, I can only say that they did work for the standard hardware on a 98. I don't know anything about the 24x modification on an earlier engine.

I been doing a little digging and that is what torqhead recommends to use and it looks like thats what I'm going to go with.

To be honest I never had a problem with my opti and had no reason to go with torqhead other then GM stopped making them and over the years I have seen so many have issues with the aftermarket units.

I knew when I did this I was gonna have to work a lot of kinks out so no biggy it's just a toy at this point.

Re: Idle issues

Feedback on problems/solutions is valuable. Here's a current thread from someone going with the Torqhead...... scroll down toward the end of the thread.

Re: Idle issues

Ok my tps was a .9v I got it to .65v and now the car idles pretty good. However it wants to shoot up to 1500 rpm constantly. The iac counts are around 15 shouldn't they be around 30?

Edit. Ok so I put a new battery in the car and the idle issue went away. Wierd but ok.

But it.feel like it has a miss in the 35 to 40 mph range only what are somethings that may cause this?

I take it that the surging RPM is gone?

yeah it idles really nice noniafter I fixed the tps I had to slot it it idle perfect but when I put it in gear it shot up to 1500 but I was having a problem with the battery so I installed a new one and everything ran perfect.

The only two issues I have left right now is that jerking/miss at 35-40 mph and the exhaust is hitting the body at 30 to 40 mph but I'm taking it to an exhaust shop for that.
