identifying duel valve springs...
bought this car with these springs, they fit in the stock locations on my LT4 heads and there is no grinding to make them fit. i have a bad retaining plate on top and i need to replace it... with out physically ripping it apart is there a way to identify them so that i can order the parts? id assume its the common size. 1.460OD but what does the inner spring measure? summit racing needed to know so i could order a new one...
Re: identifying duel valve springs...
You won't be able to make an accurate guess without removing one. With a combination of a spring pressure tester and a vernier caliper you could make an educated guess, but most companies do not label their valve springs.
And don't you think it's a bit of an impossible question to ask someone on an internet forum what the diameter of your unknown springs is?

Re: identifying duel valve springs...
It's not even worth guessing. There are at least a dozen different diameters of SBC valve springs, not to mention the OD is only one dimension. The ID is just as important, not to mention spring rate.
Re: identifying duel valve springs...
Typically duel springs are easily identified by their spring vs spring revolver laden combat in distances ranging from 10 to 20 paces...
Otherwise you'd have to pull the spring, measure it, and select a corresponding retainer.
