Identify Mahle Pistons (Size, Price)

I just pulled the pistons out of my camaros lt1. the person I bought it from said they had 200 miles on them. I was wonder what kind of quality they are and if they are standard size or 30 or more over. Here is they numbers I get off the casting from the inside:

Mahle
101ST7

68141

48
4

101V13

I did a google search and found nothing with those numbers.

I dont have recepts for any of the work..

Thanks for the help!

They might be new, but LT1s came stock with Mahle pistons.

ahh.. I see. I did not know that.

I know that they are not forged. they have a full skirt.

I really took a chance ordering 30 over pistons when I knew the engine was rebuilt. luckly the 30 overs dont fit right now.. whew..

Yea. the guy was not a a straight seller, so there is a chance it stock, but they look clean.

If you look closely, inside you will find the word "Brazil", which is where Mahle made the stock hypereutectic pistons.

Yep.. says Brazil.. lol.. nice..

here is the car I bought:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...252452471&rd=1

notice it says top end rebuilt.

Dont buy from that dude. I did get him down to $4250 when I picked it up because there was things wrong that he did not mention. I also left him negative feedback.
Worst part is. this guy is a GM mechanic I bought it from, and I am finding missing bolts and stuff not done right.. Arg.. pisses me off, I overpaid. but like I said before, nothing I can do now. Well atleast it did have all the mods that he said, the pacesetters, Flowmaster Catback, High Flow Cat, slp induction, hot cam kit...ect. that will save me money since I was going to get alot of that anyway.

I guess there is a small chance that he got new OEM pistons (since he works at GM, maybe got a discount or somehting), but either way, it does not really matter any more.

So, these pins are pressed in right.. I never did anyting pressed in, but I did just buy a press to change the bearings in my tranny. so I just find a socket the size of the pin maybe a hair smaller and press then out?..

Thanks

This says the lower end (pistons) was stock.

"Engine was just rebuilt with the lower end of engine remaining stock however"

I consider the lower end the crank and bearings.. I asumed it had new pistons.. Oh well.

So seeing as these are stock pistons and rods with 86K miles on them, they are not worth anything I might as well throw them away.

lower end/bottom end is usually the entire rotating assembly to me.

Happens WAY too often! Now sellers can't even leave negative feedback for buyers.

No I didnt negative feedback him for that. I negative feedbacked him for this:

Less than 10 hours after buying the car the trans locked up on me. I was not even beating it at all. I hit WOT 2 times for about 5 seconds in 4th gear on the express way. Im so lucky I made it home, it happened on my way to work the next morning about 2 blocks down the road, I was babying it and short shifting to.

The trans was making bad noise when I got there, Right when I started the car and heard it he said "throughout bearing"... but you didnt hear it when you were on the clutch, only when the trans was spinning. I knew it was not the throughout bearing, and so did he . He was a GM mechanic, he knew there were problems in the trans. there was no mention of that before I drove 150 miles to get the car, and there was alot of stuff he failed to mention. also, there was no oil dipstick in the car, I couldnt even check the oil before I drove it home. he made it sound like the only problem was the the tear in the seat. He knew there were more problems. (it was missing the cover over the top of the throttle body to)

in the end it was a decent deal for me, since I had planed to do all this work anyway. I would have spend atleast $1000 on the mods that came with the car. So, I kinda figure that I paid $3,250 for the car, and 1K for the mods. Wich is prety good for 86K miles.

but, yes-lesson learned on what the lower end is.. It makes sence now. It all worked out, I took a chance and ordered my pistons 30 over before I checked.

Did he say if he did any machining on the block when he did the "rebuild"? Hopefully he didn't just throw new stuff in there. After time ridges form on the top end and the bores can even become slightly egg shaped. I'd ask if you burn oil but it seems like draining all the oil out to see if you are low ,by measuring it and then pouring it back in would be a whole lotta work
There is a lot more to it than just throwing in some new slugs. Cylinder wall finish also is crtitcal depending on ring choice. Piston to wall clearance as well when using forged or hyper slugs. How far are you going to go with your machine work?
