Ideal Coolant temp question
Ideal Coolant temp question
What would you guys feel the best operating temp is?
I have a stock 180 thermostat and am not sure what temp the fan is supposed to come on at?
There is also a manual overide fan switch installed on the dash but I don't want it to keep jumping between open and closed loop or wear out the fan prematurely.
Any experiences / suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan from Niagara

Re: Ideal Coolant temp question
If you want, you can read about the cooling system here.
There is no danger of you going in and out of closed loop when using a fan switch.
"Best" questions are not usually easily answered. There are so many factors. Your car could run well in a range of 175°-210°.

Re: Ideal Coolant temp question
thanks for the link - I recently replaced the coolant sensor on the water pump and idle and cooling seem to have improved - also glad that a manually overide fan shouldn't overcool the engine.
Re: Ideal Coolant temp question
I run 210 degrees all day, stop-n-go and highway. (This is readying my autometer guage, too, not the crappy stock gauage) BTW, I have my both my fans on by 175 and have a stock thermostat.
