Idea for reducing roller rocker noise...

My Comp Pro mags make the normal clackity clackity clack like they should for a fast lobe high lift cam, but I would like to reduce the noise if possible. They are not very loud, but just loud enough to be annoying.

My Chevy truck bed is Linex'd and the other day I threw a rock in the bed and it made a dampened sound unlike a rock being thrown into a truck bed with no Line-X. The Line-X coating is rubbery like and goes on a good 3/16" thick and appears to have some sound deadening capabilities.

I know the whole point of the LT4 composite valve covers was to reduce the roller rocker noise, maybe this coating will do it as well.

So I was thinking, has anyone ever heard of Line-X'ing the stock valve covers to reduce some of the noise from the roller rockers?

Any thoughts other than you try this and let us know how it worked?

Are you planning to do the inside or outside of the covers? I think if you stripped it completely of paint and coated both sides it would work very well.

I was only considering the outside, I would never risk doing the inside. My luck the hot oil would srtip the coating anf bye bye bearings. I am going to call Line-X and get a price.

Update:
Line-X quoted me $40.00 to coat them. I am going to find some cheap cores and give it a shot. If anybody wants to sell some stock LT1 covers give me a shipped price to 40511.

Are you sure you have the O-lash and lifter preload adjustment correct? If the lifter preload is too loose, I could see where that would be a problem and cause noise. Personally, I haven't experienced any real degree of rocker noise with my set-up.

As mentioned, they shouldn't be that noisy---I don't know what adjustment is required with roller, but it is usually about 1/2 turn for most. You might try a little more while engine is running to see if they quiet down. Might try using a little heavier oil too, especiallyl if you are using a really light synthetic blend.

Masking excessively loud rockers by insulation may not be a good idea, if the cause is something other than ordinary rocker noise. JMHO

Once again, they really are not that loud. If the Line-X mod kills any of this noise then that is a plus.

I am confident they are adjusted correctly, I just want to do what is within reason to hush them up as much as possible. Right now I have them at 1/2 turn PZL.

Another reason they are louder is due to the rag top, you hear every single little sound unlike a hard top.

You may be treating the symptoms of the problem (noise) and not necessarily the root cause of the problem (not enough lifter pre-load).

Also, I could really use some of that Line-X in my new Colorado Z71 bed.

No difference in noise from 1/4 to 1/2 turns PZL. One more time guys, the noise I am hearing is normal roller lifter noise. I just want to do what I can to silence it beyond that.
