Iceing The Intake?
Iceing The Intake?
Hey guys I am headed to the drag strip tomorrow and I know that I want to ice down my intake before I run it. My question is I was planning on just buying a bag of ice from the gas station on the way there and I was wondering the best way to ice down the intake? Will it be safe to just lay it across the intake even though the bag is going to let water out on the engine? This is my main concern I don't want to get anything wet that shouldn't (aka opti) How do you all ice you intakes? Thanks for the help.

I'd list the reasons why but there is a 10,000 charactor limit
If the intake is going to heat back up that quick how come I have seen so many guys using ice on their intakes? Just curious it seems like the intake won't get hot until the motor is starting to rise to running temp. So you guys wouldn't ice your intakes?

I did this once... Then, realized after I waited in line, waited for the other guy to do his massive burnout on his street tires, my car was up to 180 degrees again. If you wanna push your car to the line, then start it, it may help with .0005 of a second. The best deal is to get a low temp thermostat and a fan switch. That will keep the entire engine cool. It only takes a minute or so for me to cool down to closing temp for the thermo if I turn on the fans and the electric WP.Concentrate your time and money on better things. For the cost of the ice bags over a few weekends, you could buy a low temp thermo.

Yeah i see what your saying and it isn't like i was planning on doing this everytime i was just looking to make the best run possible being stock before i start with the mods this next week. i have already looked into a fan switch and thermo and those are some of the first mods going into the car. thanks for all the help guys, i appreciate it.

Water pump and everything still function, you just don't have a battery
