IAT resistor mod help

Ok, I was just reading up about this mod, and checked our parts cage for a 4.7K ohm resistor. I found some 4.9K ohm ones, is this close enough, or is a difference of 200 ohms that significant? Also, is there any danger to doing this mod? Thanks!

EDIT:
I found this while searching, I have a 93, does this apply to me?

"Check out this thread. It covers the pros, cons and goes into pretty deep detail. Give the mod a try, if you dont think it is a good idea, simply plug the sensor back in. You lose nothing.

note: this mod should not be done on 1993 speed density cars. the IAT sensor on those cars does more than simply calculate rate of advance."

Re: IAT resistor mod help

I'm not sure why there is a difference between the way a SD car would use the IAT vs. the way a MAF car would use it. I run my car in SD mode and haven't noticed anything in the tuning program relating to IAT's. The 3* that it pulls is hard coded into my PCM. I'm not sure about the chipped cars.

Re: IAT resistor mod help

From the archives, to quote Injuneer;

"Speed-density uses a different method to calculate the air flow. It uses the speed of the engine (RPM) to determine the theoretical air intake, then looks up the volumetric efficiency (VE) of the cylinder in a programmed table, to calculate the actual VOLUME of air flow. But it needs the "mass" (pounds) of air flow, not the volume, so it has to calculate the density of the incoming air. It does this using (simplified) the perfect gas law, that allows you to calculate the incoming air density based on the air temperature (IAT) and the air pressure (MAP)."

IMHO this mod is a dumb idea on any car. I definately would not do it on a SD car because you would compromise 50% of the info the PCM is using to calculate the amount of air entering the engine.

It netted -5rwhp on my 95 3.4. (yes, a 5rwhp LOSS)
You won't see that mod on my other cars.

What he said.
Immediately stop listening to anyone who tells you this is a good thing to do.
