IAT Resistor Mod....

IAT Resistor Mod....
Okay. I've just completed a s***load of reading about this mod and may put a ~500 ohm resistor in series with my IAT. I can always remove it if this doesn't work. However...
My question is that can this prove to be unhealthy for my engine in the summer months here in Las Vegas? As anyone here can tell you, it gets pretty hot here. OR I'm thinking I can just remove this mod in the summer months to get true temp readings.
The reason why I ask is because it's quite cold here in the winter...but I do notice sluggish respone once my engine heats up to operating temperatures, even on a very cold day. (I love they way my car feels before my temp gauge starts to climb over the 160* mark)
And if anyone asks, the reason I may do the "inline" resistor instead of just putting in the 4.7k ohm resistor is because we only get 91 octane out here.
