So I quoted this from the fastest LT1s thread.

According to these times, I can do it with bolt-ons only? I can be sure, & add a cam? I can add a set of heads & roll cage & go deep into the 11s? & stroking the motor would be overkill.... an LSx swap would be more time than it's worth?

I can add a gear in there somewhere as well.

I ask because I'm doing some work to my 96 Z28. It was my primary driver for a while & being overly conservative, I never modded it at all. But now I've got some time to work on it I want to build it up a little. I still need it to be reliable as it'll be my daily driver again soon.

I'm leaning towards the 383, I've always like the way that sounds & if I build it right & learn to drive, I should easily hit my goal of 11 second ETs right? (11.6 to be exact as I have no intentions of putting in a roll cage.

Browse the forums and find a car that runs the numbers you'd like to run, then emulate the setup. That's the most cost-effective way to reach your goals since the research has already been done for you.

Do not assume running 11.70s in bolt-on trim will be easy though. Tom put a **** ton of work into that car.

As Joe indicates, it's harder than it might seem. It gets more difficult the quicker you go. The place to start really isn't under the hood, it's under the car.......suspension is key to solid, repeatable times. Theoretically, you can be in the 11's with less than 400 rear wheel horsepower and you don't need a383 for that...
