Hmm... I doubt they did but???

What is odd is the filter most use for the SS is the 33-2018 filter for the Jeep/AMC Trucks. The part number on that site for their filter is KN332118. Strange.

FWIW, I've compared the K&N 33-2018 filter to a stock SS paper filter and they share the same dimensions when holding them up to each other. So, not sure why all the hoopla about using this filter

The jeep/amc filter will work on a SS despite all the controversy. I have one and the filter fits perfectly. The problem is that the SS airbox gets bent out of shape from the heat of the motor and the filter doesn't seal properly. In other words even the stock filter won't seal properly either.

Maybe they threw in a 1 instead of the 0?

Yeah... so when somebody orders it with a 1 that tells them to peel off the JEEP label. LOL

Way back in '97 I spoke with some K&N folks and they pretty much said the SLP box was junk so they didn't make a filter for it. Back then I got my filter from Motorsport Technologies in Houston.

Don't know? Might want to call them and ask them. I suspect it is along the lines of what I was saying... just a method to let them know it is for an SS and not for a Jeep

The Jeep fits fine, but the holley fits better because the pleats run vertical rather than horizontal like the K&N (stiffer front to back).

I seriously doubt that K & N ever made a filter for the ram air box.

They tried every which way to get one to seal, using sealing grease, etc, but they just couldn't get their filter to seal well enough, so they just decided it would be cost prohibitive to do anything else.

The real problem is the box, not the filters. JMHO

I used to have the stock SS ram air on my 96 before I swapped it for the K&N CAI.

My filter pleats ran vertical... not horizontal... and it fit perfect. Let me get the part number...

33-2084

That number is right off the side of the K&N filter I'm looking at right now... my old one that fit in my SS air box no problem.. and pleats run verticle...

I also just took a look at my old air box, and nothing seems to be modified (cut or changed)

I can't remember for sure.. but I remember one time trying to put a stock paper filter made for my car from a GM dealer in and it didn't fit... I can't remember how it didn't fit though.. I think it was too tall. Not sure if the other dimensions were wrong. Hmm

EDIT - I just looked up my filter part number on the K&N site and apparently my filter only fits Dodge Rams...

All the descriptions it gives are correct about my filter (width, length, height etc...)

hmmm wtf??

Can't remember whether the Dodge ran vert or horizontal, but as I recall it was not high/thick enough, whereas the Jeep filter was.

I believe the Holley is the only way to go if you want a gauze filter. JMHO
