I think I figured out my misfiring problem

Ok, drove home last night, 6th gear, car drove ok for a bit, then began acting up after is warmed. I spoke to my buddy and we kinda came to a conclusion that my car is running too lean and stumbling at low rpm due to insufficient fuel. I drove the car to work today at 2k+ rpm range and it was smooth. I am goin to send my pcm out to MadZ and have him richen the afr a bit. Reasoning behind this is, my plugs are white, not brownish color. My exhaust pipe is bluish. Car runs fine above 2k because more fuel being dumped into the system and the car runs great. Anyone would like to chime in on this, please do.

Does it miss if you get on the throttle smartly? Even in the lower gears?

Car runs great when cold, which at that point it is running very rich. When it warms, that when it runs like @ss at low rpms. Driving in 5th on highway at 2k+ it is fine, 6th on highway at 2k+ is fine, but below 2k in 5th or 6th, thats when it misfires.

A typical problem of our cars are bad plug wires. It sounds to me like you are starting to develope this. Adding more fuel down low sounds like a good idea, but don't rule out the wires.

Re: I think I figured out my misfiring problem

Yes I have mine routed over the valve cover also. But it appears my arcing is coming from where the boot matches up with the plug. I can barely see them arcing at night, and atleast 5 of them are arcing to the valve covers. It might not be your problem, but if you are like me, I was/am in denial about my Taylor 8mm universal plug wires. I will know in a couple days when my new wires arrive from Summit. I found my arcing when I started up my car in the dark, and had to stick my face down towards the headers, and saw them arcing. I also have Mac headers, and my wires are no where near danger either.

Nope, not this time. I have replaced everything electrical except the igintion control module. I did have a bunch of wires on the pasenger side by the headers melt together, so I fixed that issue, and still had a miss. But this is the umptennth time I have had a miss, and most of the time it has been a burnt wire. I am pulling the motor right now as my oil pressure it plummeting after warmed up at idle.

I think it depends what you consider arcing. Is there an actual spark from the wires to the valve covers? If so, then i would say the wires are shot, but if they are just glowing very slightly, apparently this is ok (called a Corona Glow). I had the same problem, put new Taylor 8mm wires on and the slight glow is still there. Also replaced the coil as that was starting to go as well.

I think before you replace anything else, you should try to get that car on a scanner. Look at what all is going on, instead of guessing at the problem. Do you know anyone w/ a Snapon Scantool or something? It could be the opti, or it could be setting a code that isn't causing an SES light.

Just an idea, hope you get it fixed

Re: I think I figured out my misfiring problem

My wires are actually arcing on the cover and crossfiring to other wires that are even a 1/2inch away not just glowing. I can actually see a mini lightning bolt going from one to the other if that gives ya an idea..I cant beleive I got a brand new set that is bad
