I think i broke a mount
I think i broke a mount and engine mount question
I just noticed this the other day, when my car is idling, it seems to be shaking more, but it is not a rough idle, that is very steady. and in some gears, like reverse, I let out the clutch but with out giving it gas, the car jerks while rolling, it never has done that b4. and it will do that in lower gears also. I think that I might have broke either a tranny mount or a motor mount, the tranny mount was replaced when i replaced the clutch a 1.5 years ago. the motor mounts are original and I that is what I am guessing.
one other thing is that when I shift hard, the tranny DOES NOT jerk to the side like it would if the trans mount was bad. any help would be apreciated.
PS> what are the pros and cons of solid mounts and soft engine mounts?

Sounds like you very well could have a broken motor mount. Kind of odd that the car wouldn't jerk on a hard shift. If you had a broken motor mount that would surely cause the tranny to jerk a bit more than before. A good way to check for broken motor mounts is to have someone rev the engine while you watch the mounts. Of course with any engine there will be some movement of the engine, however if there is a large movement then you have a broken mount.
On the solid vs. soft mounts I will change the wording to soft vs. hard. You will have a minimal difference between hard vs. soft. With hard mounts you will see (a bit) more hp and torque due to the fact that less is being transfered to the mounts. With hard mounts you may see more drive train noise produced in the cabin. Also, given the nature of solid materials vs. soft materials, hard materials are more brittle than soft which causes them to break more suddenly and catastrophically than soft materials. All of that may sound like an over-analysis, and someone please chime in if i'm wrong with any of it.
Personally, I have changed my tranny mount twice. I finally went with a poly mount and I didn't notice too much difference between that and the stock one.

unless your car lives at the track and on a trailor...
you DO NOT want solid motor mounts, or tranny mount for that matter...
the vibrations would make the car pretty much undriveable, and you, sterile.

sorry, what I meant was like the solid metal mounts VS the rubber or poly mounts. I will try looking at the mounts. thanks
