I step on the gas and the rpms dont increase? WTF?

Just pulled hard on a cadillac, went to McDonalds for 5 minutes..come back out and at first I thought the transmission was slipping...so I go through the gears on my automatic..
thing is, I have the gas pedal almost halfway to the floor and the rpms just wont rise above 2000?
Someone please help?
What is it?

Is the car missing at all when this is happening? I would check fuel pressure, maybe filter. This same sort of problem happened to me when my cat plugged up so you may want to check that also. Just a couple of things to check.

nope, ur tranny is on its way out..thats what happens, it feels like a sluggish pull like you step on it and nothing really happens, rpms dont really get above i say 2-3k....drive it to a shop and have them take alook...time for a good rebuild....and if you go ahead and do it, might as well get the best rebuild for it, with hardend internals, shiftkit, better clutches, and go ahead with a stall....may be around 2k totale, but hey it will be damn well worth it....
good luck
