I have this coolant smell in the car when the car gets to operating temps.

I cant find any leaks, I even did a heat core bypass to make sure that wasnt the problem.

I cant figure out what would be causing this smell, anyone have any ideas for me ? It smells like its evaporating off the block but there are no puddles under the car. And the coolant is still full im going crazy

 

If you got coolant on the engine you will smell it for a while. Make sure your water pump isn't leaking out of the weep hole.

 

then tomorrow im going to wash it off with some degreaser

 

i've had the same problem for a while now. I can't seem to find the cause either. I'm leaning towards the water pump weep hole since it's the original pump with over 100k on it.

 

I'd get to replacing it then. Do the opti while you are there, if it's original too.

 

U sure its coolant man? Another vote for the weep hole here..

I had the same exact problem i have narrowed it down to the water pump i am putting it on tomorrow so i will see if that fixes it.

 

My opti only has about 10k on it. I should have done the pump then too.

 

the area that i spilled coolant on was the back of the block nowhere near the opti. It was while doing the coolant bypass because I smelled the coolant in the 1st place.
I have checked the weep hole already and it has no signs of leaking.The water pump only has about 10,000 miles on it. Hell the car only has 46,000 miles on it.
