I Really Need Help!!!! Think A Small Bolt Fell Into Injector Hole

97 Z 28 I Have The Fuel Rail Off And The Injectors Out And Was Putting On The Map Sensor And Think A Small Bolt May Have Fallen Into One Of The Injector Holes. Not 100% Sure But Can't Find It And Can't Risk It Being In There. What Is The Best Way To Find Out If It Is In There And Retrieve It? That Side Exhaust Manifold Is Off Right Now As Well? Please Help!!! Really Don't Want To Remove The Intake.

Try one of those little things(not sure what to call it) that is on a piece of wire and has a small magnet on the end. You'll have to fish it thru the injector hole into the chamber and hope it's there, otherwise, bring the piston up in the bore of the suspected cylinder. Remove the valve spring of said intake valve, do not let the valve fall!!!!!! Remove spark plug and slowly bring piston to TDC and then fish the screw out. A lot of work so make sure it IS in the chamber.

Look down it with a flash light to see if you can locate the bolt. Wether you can or can't find it you need to get a magnet that extends on a stick(dont know what it is called) and use it to fish around under the intake.

Hope the bolt sticks to the magnet!!!

do you think it is sitting in the intake or down into the head?

If you go to an electronics store you can get a long flexible magnet, not to sound perverted but its part of a kit called a "wet noodle" people use them to fish wires through walls and it would be better than a straight telescoping one.

If it went down the injector hole, it is in the head, sitting on top of the intake valve. Try the "WET NOODLE" thing first. Other wise ,aside from taking the head off completely, I don't know of another way other than removing the valve spring and letting the valve down a bit with the piston close to TDC and fishing it out the spark plug hole. Try sending a PM to shoebox, sstrokerace, injuneer, those guys know there stuff and are really resourceful

I'd pull the intake. If its not in there it will give you better access to get it out of the cylinder. LOL this does remind me of once when a friend called me to tell me he was stuck because he had a leaking injector and he didn't want to drive his car for fear of it catching fire. I grabbed some parts and went over to help him. We pulled the injector and replaced his leaking seal with new one. While we were working he flicked a small rock off his intake and he swore it went down his injector hole. We spent 30 mins arguing over if he should fire it up. Eventually he fired it up and backed the car up. The rock was laying on the pavement right under his car.

Edit: man i must of really not been paying attention some of that made no sense before my edit.

That probably wouldn't be a bad idea, either. The intake is dry meaning no coolant flows thru it. What route do you go, better safe than sorry?

It's a no-brainer. Pull the intake.

I'm with shoebox, pull the intake, odds are the intake valve is closed, so the bolt will be sitting right there ontop of it.

borescope might help to look in the less accessible spaces
