I really need a definite answer, no maybe's here

I need to know the exact signs of timing being off. What does the car do, does it do it at lower or higher rpms, what exactly does timing being off cause? I've heard a whole bunch of different answers and none of them really narrow it down to what I am asking. What are the signs the car gives if it's timings off??

Timing off can be a number of things. Slow reving, not starting, constant back firing when running? If it is off alot it probally won't start. Why do you think your timing is off, replaced your cam? The distributor can only be installed 1 way on these cars and it is non ajustable. Give us some more info to work with.

yes, I changed the cam. When it came time to align the dots of the sprockets, I went to work for a few hours and my buddy did it. I asked im for sure if the dots were 6/12, he said it may be off one dot. So that is what the problem is. how much problems can being one tooth off cause?

If you think it is one dot off, first kill your friend that did it, then tear into the motor and fix it. I don't know for sure, but i would think that one gear off, may change it as much as 10 or 11 degrees one way. it all depends on the chain you run. you might want to check it out....

I know a guy that had his timing a tooth off. It was a dog with the timing out. It also backfired a lot.

But, yeah go punch your buddy that finished that up for you.
