I need your help!!!
i took my car to the shop that built my motor so they can check what was causing a knocking sound. they jacked up the car and got a stethescope. they determined the knock was coming from the oil pan. they put their hands on it and they could feel something hitting it. they said it was a rod hitting the oil pan. they told me that when they built it, they turned the crank to check clearance and everything cleared. they're telling me that i must've dented the pan when i was installing it or something. they are willing to work with me though. can i drop the pan while the engine is in the car? if so, how do i do it? which oil pan do i have to get? i have arp main studs with the stock windage tray. would i have to remove the tray with the new pan? please help. i dont know what to do!!
Why can't this brilliant bunch your dealing with look in the drain hole with a bore scope and see where it's hitting when they turn it by hand? Any good shop should have a bore scope. You said they are willing to work with you. If it turns out it is bent, that can tell you where to pull it with a suction dent puller and you don't have to take anything apart or but any parts.
Also ask them how much clearance they left between the pan rails and crank/rods. Should be a minimum of 0.060 inches.

the shop said they will pay for the labor. i have to buy a pan that clears. i was gonna go with a canton 242t, but ive heard stories about how bad they're made and they leak everywhere. i decided to go with a milodon 30909. i do have another question. if anyone is familiar with this pan, what is the pickup screen that goes with it? is it the 18314 or the 18316?
