i need a a muffler for my wide open exhaust cause i think i lost power which one?

i have slp shorties into a y pipe and no cats and i cut the exhaust pipe of right under the passenger seat so i have no exhaust pipe coming out of the rear i think i lost a little power so what muffler should i go with to get some back pressure back? i was thinking of a bullet style muffler with a turn down. i think this setup is also the cause of an on going egr code po400 cause i replaced the egr.

I had the same problem. I had stock manifolds, stock Y-Pipe without cats, bullet muffler under rear passenger seat and tips out the back. IMO the car sounded like a redneck POS and I did lose back pressure and the SES light came on with EGR code. So I took the bullet muffler off and put a 3-chamber Flowmaster on it. I got a little back pressure back and it feels a little stronger out of the hole but I had alot more with the cats on. For some reason LT1's sound like s**t with the bullet mufflers and they love back pressure. The SES light still stays on in my car because it says the EGR is not working properly, but it sounds badass and I am tired of spending money on the exhaust, so mine is gonna stay like this for a while. If you want to try a Borla XR-1 muffler I think that would sound badass, it is just like the bullet but has a triangle restrictor in the middle for a little needed back pressure. The only thing is they are so damn expensive. Sorry for the story but I hope this helps in some way.

I have the same exhaust you have. SLP shorties, SLP y-pipe, no cats. I have a 3" Dynomax Ultraflow. I really like the low deep rumble it has driving around, and it screams at WOT. Check out the first vid on my webpage for a little WOT run with the Ultraflow.

Flowmasters usually sound nice (except that crappy cross-flow 80-series model)..... I wish there were room for "true dual" w/ Flowmasters on a 4th Gen. My neighbor's '85 Chevy C10 truck w/ Flowmaster duals gives me wood when it cranks up, heh. My Z28 just sounds like an old farm truck.

It is a myth that a vehicle can have to little back pressure. Show me where it has been proven that a setup requires a certain minimum of back pressure. The lower the back pressure the better. The issue is 'tuning' for a better exhaust resonance. That being stated, it would not be uncommon to need a smaller exhaust to get the most desirable resonant characteristics than would otherwise be needed if attempting to solely achieve the least back pressure.
