i need more power
i need more power
hey someone i got edelbrock performer heads(54cc) and intake man., comp cams, kn cold air, 58mm throttle body, pacesetter longtube headers, y pipe, and flowmaster catback. plan on getting eagle bottom end sooooon, any idea on what kind of power ill be getting to the wheels. any specs you need i can give you. i havent put the parts on the car yet, im waiting on the bottom end. do you think ill be pushing 380-400hp. thats what im aiming for.
Those heads might be holding you back some. I did a set of stock 96 heads for a guy, they had 2.00 1.56's, 54cc chambers, with a custom spec'd 224/230 .604/.600 on a 108, ported the intake, longtubes, ported 58mm tb, through a cai and a stock 107k mile shortblock and made 381rwhp at 5700 on a stingy dyno. Valves started to float(spring needed .050 more shim) but was well on it's way to making 400+. So if you've got a good tuner i'd imagine you could atleast put down 380.

If your going to buy a set of aftermarket castings the Trick Flows are supposidly the best, with the right valve job they'll go over 280 without any port work at all so it'd be cake to get them over 300. If not you could probably just have those Edelbrocks you have ported and a good valve job put on them.
Porting and polishing is effective everywhere, people assume just because you make a port larger that your going to lose low end torque and you'll have to spin it to the moon to make power. Not so at all.
What are you trying to accomplish? Do you want a nice torquey street machine?
One of my first combos I built years ago had heads that only did 250/190 cfm @ .600". It was a 388", cheap Keith Black hyper pistons, nothing special.
It put down 358/450 @ the wheels. It was full weight, stock salad shooters, exhaust was quiet and ran 11.7's-11.8's@115-116 mph hot lapping the car.
Knowing what I know now, I could have probably chopped a 1/2 second off that and had a real streetable, quiet street car.
So do not get to stuck on flow numbers....there is more to it.
