LCA RELO'S WILL HELP IF YOU HAPPEN TO BE SPINNING FROM THE ROLL. Gears should be enough to keep you ahead of him from a roll.

i wouldnt recommend heads/cam on a stock shortblock, id only mess with that on a LOW mile engine, or a rebuilt shortblock..

Do long tube headers, cat-back
LCA relocation brackets
LCA's
Gears
stall converter (assuming your cars an automatic)

That will get you a nice jump on him

as long as your stock shortblock is in good shape heads and cam will be fine.. but the question is, what kind of budget are you working with? that will help us determine what you can and cannot do.

What mods and what trap speeds? With a 14.3, he should be trapping around 95 or so. What are his mods? With a 13.9 you should be near 100mph. A little more info would help.

Headers, intake, cutout and you should be low 13's. He will need alot more to hit those times. High 13's are easy and cheap with a GTP. The best I did with my old GTP was a 13.9@100. All it had was a fenderwell intake, 3.25 pulley, 3" downpipe, ubend removed and flowmaster mufflers. About $300 total in mods. It was a cold day.

What are you revving when you start from a roll? Maybe your too low in your powerband where as cars like his are geared lower helping win from a roll. Some 4:11's should help nicely unless he is still pulling on you when your at 5000+rpm.

Buy a Supra J/K Go with a nice set of headers and finish the rest of the exhaust with a set of duals or a catback. That should be enough to gain 3-5 mph in the 1/4 alone.

What size pulley? GTPs are great cars. I would like to get another one someday soon. When I do it all over again, it will be Fenderwell intake, 3.0 pulley, 1.9RRs with LS6 springs, custom DHP with happy ****, Pacesetter headers, ubend removed, and a cutout. Should be good for high 12's.

But your gearing is killing you. My bro has 2.73s and I would put carlengths on him from any RPM with my 3.23s. Once he got 3.42s we were dead even from any RPM. With a good T/C, you should do that much better.

PM me if you ever have any GTP related questions. I killed KR many times and I can give some pointers. I owned one for 3 years as was under the hood at least once a week tinkering with it. God I miss that car.

yaeh he has a 3.4 pully but he said he had heard that the pacesetters fit real wierd on those cars dont get me wrong the r good for the money but he doesnt wana deal wit that he is still gettin KR wen he shouldnt n i kno the 97's r a lil different i think he just may need sum tunein dun to fix that he had a data logger put on it and he ran a couple n he was also getting negative timeing???? do u recamend any brand converter n a stall 2400? 3000? ive ben thinkin 3.73's also n ive hasd a new auburn posi just sittin there 4 a while do i have enough cam to support that much stall??

If he can find a used set, TOGs are the best headers made for the L67. Unfortunately, TOGs went out of business 3 years ago and people who bought them, really hold onto them.

For his KR problem, has your bro ziptied all of this dipsticks or anything else that can cause false KR to something stable? I know the tranny dipstick kinda shakes and the oil dipstick can vibrate on the exhaust manifold. Another thing about the 97's (my GTP was a '97) was that the ABS system pulls timing. So at the track, I would pull both ABS fuses in the glove box out. The brakes still work, but disable ABS entirely. Yet another thing would be to put in a little 5ohm resistor into the IAT sensor. It will fool the computer into thinking it's 5*(depending on where you live, this might not matter. Here in AZ it helped me out.) and give you more fuel to help fight detonation. And last but not least, if he hasn't done it, swap to a 180 drilled t-stat or a 160* stat, flush out the radiator put in water and 2 bottles of water wetter. All these things got me down from 8* KR to ZERO KR in 120* AZ summer temps.

I'm not big on stall knowledge, but 3K is the minimum stall you should look into. And 3.73s would be a great step up from your 2.73s. You should easily drop .5 in the 1/4 just by adding gears.
