Question I need advice for cleaning...

So i did a good clean on the outside and a semi good on the inside of my 97 Z. Well, i had to put the temp sensor back in that poped out under my hood, and i noticed it's pretty dirty under there.

How would you guys go about cleaning your engine bay, anything under the hood. The engine has about 400 miles on it (rebuild, if that matters), and i want it to be clean; I heard its not safe to hose it down though.

My dad told me i should take it early one day to the self cleaning car washes, soak it down, like drench it with 2-3 bottles of degreser, then power wash everything down their drains, but i'm a little weary of it.

Any advice?

That sounds like trouble for your opti spark. Honestly, I did clean mine a few months aago. Degreaser and regular hose pressure and I had no ploblems. I did take care to plastic bag everything but still-I WAS LUCKY to not F U C K up my opti.....

I know where my opti is, and what if i taped it off, and put plastic wrap around it? How else would i clean the engine bay?

*WHILE RUNNING* Use Mean Grean.... spray it down (trying to avoid the opti at all costs)

*WHILE RUNNING* Spray off the Mean Green with a regular pressure water hose...(trying to avoid the opti at all costs)

The heat from the running engine, should help evaporate any accidental water hitting the opti.

Learned from a friend, and it does work!

Re: I need advice for cleaning...

I've heard stories about people spraying down their engine bay and completely messing up their opti and electrical system. I would definitely recommend not doing that!! (just my opinion) I just figured that it wasn't worth the unnecessary risk

I cleaned my engine bay with a lot of elbow grease and some Spray Nine cleaner. Or you can also use bleach and water with a semi-soft sponge. Basically i did it all by hand and it came out looking great. I also recommend using some sort of spray to shine up the plastic in there. I used Armor All on my CAI and on the hoses and it made the car look great.

Hopefully this helps, but anything will come clean with some sort of degreaser and some sweat.

I've heard those same horror stories. I so want to do it the lazy way, but i think i am going to end up doing it the long way with the elbow grease, thanks for the advice.
