Angry I messed something up w/ TBbypass!

Condesned version: replaced waterpump last night, while I was in there, went ahead and did the TB bypass. She starts up great, runs. Grab my wallet and take her around the block: SES light comes on, fans come on, air pump kicks on and off. Crap! I go home look for loose vacuum lines, etc. Take a shower, go back out. Think I found the problem: MAF sensor not secure. Start her back up drive it around, No SES light!, no problems, start and restart a few times, no problems. Great! I fixed it. Nope, this morning, start her up, she warms up fine, no lights. get in to drive to work, and bamm, SES light and hesitation, fans on. Anybody got any ideas? I can really hear the air pump click on and off. Figuring its air related, but dont know why fans come on? How bout Opti? That would throw the SES code and maybe the stumbling, but what about the fans? Anybody had any similar experience?

Check the fuse to the air pump. I'm not sure what size it is (30A?), but if Shoebox gets in here, he knows. But, from what I have heard the air pump fuse will blow sometimes and trip the SES.

First off, yes the AIR pump fuse is 30A, it's one of those big square black things under the hood.

Second, it's possible the fans coming on and the rest is too separate problems. If you did the TB Bypass, did you make sure to bleed the coolant lines? If there's air the coolant may be overheating, and the fans coming on. Simple thing I know, but just thought I'd throw it out.

Make sure the bypassed coolant lines aren't touching any sensors.

Happened to my friend's car. His coolant line was touching one of the sensors that plug into the TB and the IAT on the elbow.

ohh yes me too

the air pump fuse WILL most definately cause the fans to run,i searched for why my fans ran almost all the time and finally someone on fbody.com said it was the air pump fuse.i was like ,hell he must be on crack or something, but guess what he was right.just unplug your air pump connector from pump, replace the fuse, which is in underhood box,20 amp blade type, and reset your code and see if it dont help.hell if it dont you only waste a few minutes time and one lousy fuse.after all 4th gen air pumps are pos,i believe they had a recall on them.let me know if it helps ok? oh by the way,the code that mine threw was 26...i was told it made the fans run because the air pumps are tied into the quad driver module, which also runs the fans and 2 other things..i forget which....gettin old, lol

Yeah, that might explain the fans, but what about the stumbling when i try to apply the gas..she will stumble, then catch and go. All of this with the fans on. And why did she run perfectly last night when i let her rest for a while and clicked the MAF and checked the vaccumm lines, only to mess up again in the morning?

ses light

what code is she giving? the iac valve and temp sensor are pretty close to where you were working too.actually i have my o2 sensors unplugged right now,b/c im puttin macs on this weekend and my sensors are bad,but anyway even when the light comes on for them, they make my fans run, maybe alot of diff codes will cause fans to go.

I dont have a way to read the codes... Autozone can't do it on the 95 with its OBDI with a OBDII connector. And I dont have access to one from anywhere else, and I flat out refuse to take it to a shop. She's never been. Anybody got a code grabber in the north dallas, plano, frisco area?

this should help

as long as you have the 12 pin connector ,you can do this, some obd1 cars had 16 pin though http://csce.uark.edu/~jgbertr/rb/dlc2.jpg

Did you get your air pump replaced under the recall. If not, mabe you're having wiring problems with it. When mine was burnin up it would blow the fuse, fans come on, drives like crap, SES light, and low coolant light too (for some odd reason).

wait, you said "I have these symptoms", then "securing the MAF fixed it"...then "it was fine, and suddenly I have these symtoms again"...did you check to make sure the MAF didn't come loose again?

Didnt have time to check this morning..wife was leaving and just hopped in the car with her after i had turned around and cam home. Will check ALL of these things when I get home tonight. I am hoping its a fuse or the pump or something. Something didnt look quite right with that pump... but i've done like 8 waterpump jobs on this LT1 and some others I've had in the past, and never had a problem like this . I have had the car for two years, but dont know if the air pump had been replaced under recall. I will look to get a code flasher..something i've wanted anyways for a while. Sad thing is, I thinks she has feelings.cause I was thinking about selling her and I think she heard me and nows she's putting up a fuss...$5500 for her, for a TA that has never had any major problems (besides the usual replacementS)...until now......
