Unless you gonna replace the cat with a straight pipe, don't gut it. A gutted cat will flow worse than a non-gutted cat. Go figure.

you make it sound like you're running open headers. Back when my exhaust was stock. Gutting the cat provided a perfect sound and performance boost since I believe mine was clogged a bit at the time.

a gutted cat WILL flow better and decrease spool up on a turbo car, I have track times to prove it, but as far as a NA goes...Not so sure, just joining the ranks. As far as im concerned though a fully gutten cat is nothing more than a test pipe and could not hender flow.

But it would be a LOT more turbulent then with the ceramic catalyst inside. Similar to the screened/descreened MAF argument.

I replaced it with a straight pipe. The cat was clogged so I have to replace it.

Mildy more turbulet would be my call But unlike a MAS sensor i was under the impression that expelled exhaust fumes didn't need to too clean flowing. I understand a eddie type affect could occue but the added flow from the stuff packed in there should negate the affect of it(Ever seen all the **** packed in there? Looks like a wall). At least thats my call Again, just switching over to NA, so I could be wrong here.

Also when you gut a MAS the sensor looses directed flow and thus can make the car run like crap unless tuned. When you gut a cat there are no sensors to mess with, just a straighter line through the back.

When I took my cat off to put my 3" Y-pipe on it became bad loud... like "Hello officers I'm 4 blocks away accelerating quickly.. please come get me a noise polution ticket" loud.. Guess the cutout and Long tubes don't help the situation either...
