This is exactly what the car is doing. As for the battery, just to make sure I took the battery out of my car and out it in his to see if it would change anything. Still nothing. I guess the opti might be the culprit.

 

I would agree. Especially with you reporting you are getting a backfire. I had the same symptoms. Come to find out the rotor screws on the opti had backed out and the rotor was spinning freely firing whatever cylinder at will.
Loc-tite was used on the screws and that opti lasted 110K miles before I replaced it just because. I still have it as a spare.
