I Have Major Problems And Need Help

I filled up w/gas and wuz leaving the gas station and didn't even get 1/4 mile down the road and it started bogging down then died. I couldn't get it to crank up again. It seemed like it would tried to once then go to turnin over. I figured it wuz my Opti-spark because i had just dun a TB bypass and sum coolant fell down by the opti. I replace the whole ignition system. MSD Billit Opti, MSD GM Blaster Coil, MSD Super Conductor 8.5mm wires, NGK TR 55 plugs. put everything back on and tried to start and wuz doing the same thing. Just trying to pop off once then spinnin over. Then i had 2 go to work(i work on the road). The guy i have working on it said he did a FP pressure test and would be around 30lbs one try and less the next try. They sprayed sum fuel into the intake and they said it tried cranking the best then. I don't know what else to try. And if it matters any it ran completely outta gas about 2-3 months ago.

Thanks,
Steven

30 psi is low....does it hold the pres. or bleed off?
sounds like a pssiblt pump....running out of gas is not good for it, anytime you run a fluide pump dry it cavitates or sucks air

Question

Wow, can't understand why anyone didn't first suggest the obvious???

It "quit running......1/4 mile after you filled it up"............how about bad gas??? Open up your shraeder valve at the fuel rail, put a hose on it with a catch can, and cycle the ignition on/off several times to pump out maybe a 12-16 oz sample of fuel, and look at it for water and/or any other contamination? Just because the FP gauge he's using says 30 psi doesn't mean it's correct. If it wouldn't run just seconds after filling up, I'd sure check the fuel quality.

Low fuel pressure = bad pump or possibly faulty fuel pressure regulator. More likely it's the pump though.

I bought a cheap gauge on the big E and it would read lower than actual readings so i went to the auto parts store and got a good one and now it say what it is. The fpr is an easy check with the vacuum tube disconnect getting a different reading than attached.

at idle I get 30psi and only when increase throttle does it come up to ~42psi. I thought this was normal with a vacuum controlled regulator. Should it be at the 43.5 regardless of vacuum?

The "correct" rail pressure without the vacuum line attached should be 43.5psi, although the range that is acceptable is between 41 to 47psi. Once the vacuum is reapplied the fuel pressure will drop in accordance to your intake manifold vacuum. If you still have a stock cam you should drop 6-8 psi -ish. 30psi at idle is perhaps a little low.

Question

WOW, fate works in strange ways???? I just bought fresh fuel for my Z two days ago, (after winter storage), and the exact same thing happened to me. Motor quit running as soon as I pulled in my driveway after about a 1 mile drive back from the gas station??? My car has 76,000 miles on it with the original fuel pump.

You ever find out what caused this on your car???

TIA for any info.

Any chance they had just filled the station's fuel tank, stirring up all the dirt at the bottom? That could plug up the pump sock/strainer and the fuel filter pretty quick. And, when you ran out of gas, it could have weakened the fuel pump - very common result of running out.
