Exclamation I have a crank shaft question.....

Guys, i need some help please....My local machine shop that did my block and head work also ordered my rebuild kit for my 95 lt1. After having problems with the new piston skirts not clearing my crank i decided to do some checking....Can anyone please tell me if the crank i have is the correct one for my 95 lt1...It is a PBM 75006......From what i found i think it is for a 383 but need to be sure before i contact him tomorrow.....

Re: I have a crank shaft question.....

The PBM catalog shows that as a 3.75" stroke, which would be used for a 383. You want a 3.48" stroke for a 350/355/etc.

Re: I have a crank shaft question.....

FYI - I am not an engine builder. I'm just doing the math.

I would be a bit suspicious of someone who ordered the wrong crankshaft.

What length rods - stock is 5.70"? To calculate where the top of the piston is, relative to the top of the block (deck) you need to know the stroke (3.48/2), the rod length and the piston compression height (1.540").

If he ordered 5.70" rods, the top of the piston will be at 8.980", compared to te typical deck height of 9.000". That leaves the piston 0.020" "in the hole", which I believe should be fine.

No overbore as part of the rebuild? Pistons are listed as 4.000", but available in overbores.

Why did you decide to replace the rotating assembly, if you are going with stock bore? The stock crank is very strong, and can be polished and radiused. The stock powder metal rods are good for 600 HP. The stock Mahle hypereutectic pistons are OK for non-power adder applications.
