How do you know? Did you dyno before and after? I honestly think it is all psychological... But as long as you are happy with it, that is all that matters.

I think gutting the cats would make a little more power. I have been thinkin about doing it to my car for a few days now. They are restrictive as hell. I need all the free mods I can get. What about if you had shorties and gutted cats? That is why they make Off Road Y-pipes isn't it? For more flow, which = more power!

It does add a little power, dont think you would actually feel 5 hp.A straight pipe is a lot better than a gutted cat, performance wise.I personally like the sound better,it is louder.Others disagee I am sure.

For what its worth,
Back when I just had an intake and Exhaust on my car and my Friend had the same on his 97Z M6. He could pull me on the highway by almost 2 car lenghts but after he gutted his cats, he was able to pull past me quicker and got 3 car lengths on me.

Thx,
Claude

By the way, gutting the cats for us 96-97 owners is not really a free mod. After you gut the cats, your rear o2 sensors will throw a code, and the car will start running pig-rich. So you either have to get the o2 simulators ($80) or get it tuned (mail order-$125) or do a OBD-I conversion ($275). To make it short, don't gut your cats. If you get longtubes, off-road pipe and eliminate the rear o2 at the same time, I can understand, but otherwise, it is worthless. It is pretty much impossible for a human to feel the 5hp, if that, gutted cats will give you.
