I gunned her from Idle and timing Dropped to 7* plus -9 knock retard!!!
I gunned her from Idle and timing Dropped to 7* plus -9 knock retard!!!
What the F!! Dude.... I noticed every time I gunned the engine from Idle it went way slower than if I quickly yet controlled pushed the gas pedal down.
I thought it was fouling the plugs.. maybe too much gas so I put her on the scanner and Bam I hit the gas several times from Idle and the same thing happened.... I got 7*degree timing and then - 9 degree of knock retard.. fron idle...
is this normal? I want my beast to be crisp.... but with that much timing being pulled out no way it can just rev quickly if I just mash on the gas...
Anyone has any Ideas? I am runing the tank to empty so I can put some racing gas tomorrow and try again....
I did a WOT run from a 10 mile run up a long hill.... and I first got about 5 degree of knock retard and then drop to 3 degree and stayed there till I let off.... about 75 mph..... the oxygen sensors were measuring about 941 for the left and 959 for the right banks so I Know it was not running lean...
Actually this are the numbers of the first frame.... worst moment during the WOT...
Engine RPM 1700
Throttle angle 99%
Speed 15mph
Spark advance 13*
Knock retard 9*
Mass air flow 72gr sec
Left Inj pulse 18.6 ms
right inj pulse 19.1 ms
Left Oxygen sensor 941ms
Right Oxygen Sensor 959 ms
Coolant 180*F
Intake air 82.8*F
Map 4.76 volts
Throttle 4.58 volts
Baro 4.8 volts
Block learn and integradors 128
Mass Air flow 72gr. sec
I have the mods in my sig... and I adjusted the lifters to 1/4 turn just las week... I havent heard any tickin from loose ones yet but I will check again tomorrow.. other than that she is running good except for the plugs that seem to be running just a tad cold... the ceramic color is dard gray... looks like one step too cold... with grey carbon deposites acumulating on the metal part....the Electrode is clean but one step dark in color.... like a dark.. tan instead of a medium to light gray.
What do you guys think my problem is? Still has the Original PCM programing....but all this timing retard is killing the power.
any ideas?
Marvin

Re: I gunned her from Idle and timing Dropped to 7* plus -9 knock retard!!!
Check the KS to see if it's within spec. KS terminal to gnd should be 3.3K to 4.5K ohms. If it's higher it could be its not grounded properly where it screws into the block. If it's lower then it's bad. While you're there, check for voltage on the wire with the key on and off. Should be 5 volts. If there when the key is off or if it's higher, you have a wiring problem.
Just a suggestion, drop the "dude". That S@$T went out in the 90's.

Thanks for the Info Mr Gonzales. I have never tought of it. It is really good info. About the Dude part.... why drop it? I still hear others using VATO AND CABRON AND ESE, and nobody is ragin on them. Besides, I am a child of the 60's you see and I live in Hawaii and if you have been to the North Shore......... it did not go out in the 90's as you claim.
I apreciate your input though. I will check everything as you suggested and if I find out you are right I will made sure to post it here so everybody knows you give good advise. It makes sense to check it all out as you suggested
Thanks again.

***Oh I forgot... does it make any difference to check the resistance with a Digital Multimeter? should the KS measured different resistance if I swith the polarity of the probes or is it just like measuring a regular resistor?

LOL I didn't picture you as the hippy type LOL just kidding. I was born in 60. Been there. "DUDE" is a little warn out though. Had a Schmuck I worked for in 79 that called everyone "GUY". Got tired of that too.
Yes just measure it with a multimeter. Polarity doesn't matter. Hope you find it and it's an easy fix. Remember, if it measures higher, doesn't mean it's bad. Could be not grounded properly.
See ya

Lol Hippy? lol Hardly. Everyone thinks I am a Cop. I will figure out how to put my pic on this thing so you can see for yourself.
Thanks for the Info "Bruddah" (proper hawaiian for brother) I trully apreciate your time and effort. I got my meter and will get down to busines after this message.
Roger and out.

Hi I have datamaster and for the longest time I hav been having this stumble when i mash the throttle it hesitates stumbles like it wants to die and shakes and does not rev smoothly. But when it is colder it is not as bad. So in datamaster is shows that when I mash the pedal ans it stumbles and shakes, the spark advance drops to zero, and spark retard goes as high as 15* in some cases. when cold it may only get as high as 9*. Is it just a faulty knock sensor or a false knock? Maybe the lt14 knock might fix this?
I do run 93 octane, have headers midlength, exhaust, no cat, intake
Thanks
