Get a shortblock, pref. a 4-bolt. Have cam of choice installed. New lifters, etc.

I'd be a bit leery of a complete rebuild unless you are REALLY sure that the builders will do a good job.JMHO

another vote for a short block. I mean, look at what you can get, for 3400 that would make a really nice short block, I certainly hope you have the funds or have a nice credit limit.

Want reliability, get a stock motor. Not trying to be smart, but you can't get more reliable than the stock parts. I wouldn't go to ARE unless I wanted a nitrous motor.

I would seriously consider finding a stock shortblock and just transferring your stuff onto it.

I dont think the price is that bad.ARE can build a motor.Considering that includes R & R of the engine. One thought thou is consider doing a little more modding to it.

Thumbs up

My good friend said this
Rotating assembly $800.00 to $1800.00 (depends on crank forged, rods used &
hyper. or forged pistons) (Check with Ohio crankshaft-they advertise in
National dragster)
Get valve job, do a 3 angle $150.00-250.00 for both.
Block machine work; cleaned, bored 30 over, align-honed for new crankshaft,
decked & cam bearings installed. $600.00
Put motor together $200.00-300.00
Gaskets & misc. $200.00-250.00
Labor to R & R motor (Factory warranty time on a manual trans car is 12.5
hours, for customer pay labor multiply by 1.3 which is 16.3 hours of labor
times whatever labor rate they have there)
Hope this helps.
Or you could just have them inspect crank & if ok just replace bearings &
oil pump.

I had a 383 built for less than that. I'm not saying you should build a 383 but I had to buy a new crank, forged rods, and forged pistons and had the extra machining done and it still costed a bit less or the same as that including removal and installation of engine.

even if monoply money(candian bucks ) some seem high.. ie

Rings, $100 US
why would you need a new balancer?
stock crank shaft.. i see them go for $100 full cleaned up and polished
350 to clean the heads? hot tanking should be like $20

rest seems ok.
