i constantly smell antifreeze under the hood.

about a month and a half ago i put in a 160 degree t-stat and i changed the top and bottom hoses and did a coolant flush. ive been smelling antifreeze almost every time i open my hood and im not sure why. i dont notice any leaks or puddles, does anyone know why that is?

hmm... did you spill any antifreeze when you were flushing and filling? It could be in the engine bay and that could just be the smell of it burning as the engine heats up.

I'd try retightening the hose clamps.

did you use the factory clamps or did you put hose clamps on? If you're using hose clamps you may have to tighten them up pretty good, I had to re-tighten mine a few times as some coolant would sneak out.

If you are smelling coolant, there is a leak somewhere. It may not be falling to the ground, so you are going to have to look real hard.

I'm with shoebox on that one. When my expansion cracked on mine, I smelled coolant for a long time before I ever noticed the visible signs of a leak. Started out as a hairline crack. Of course, it was right above the coolant sensor, so very difficult to notice.

Put a pressure tester on your cooling system to identify where the leak is.

I had this same problem once with my SS, like posted before the leak could be anywhere. Mine was under the battery where the overflow line turns to aluminum while it runs under there. after time the line corroded and started leaking, but it was in such a not noticable place!

thanks guys i looked at the hoses and i noticed just a little bit of moisture on the end of the tube. when i replaced the hoses i used new clamps so i loosend them, then put them back on and put some gasket sealer arround the lip. i guess ill just have to wait and see if it worked.
