i changed the opti and now

i changed the opti.i had it in the right spot and everything was good.i even started it before i put the waterpump and belts on and it ran fine.i put everything back and took it for a test drive.ran good.came home and it sat for 3 hours.went back out to start it and drove it down the street and it wanted to cut off and it was running rough and now its doing the same thing from the beginning when the opti was bad. any suggestions why it would run and drive and now its not.i double checked everything and its on right.now what.i have a 94 caprice with the lt1 with the vented opti

Check coil and ignition module, but if you said it ran good for a while, look for water leaks near opti.

Re: i changed the opti and now

Since your old one was replaced, how did it fail? Is it possible the cam pin dimension is off leading to premature opti failure?

Re: i changed the opti and now

I like what Jay said. So the first question is does it run fine until it gets hot?
Here's a picture of what I was refering to about the cam pin dimensions curtesy of Rob. Thanks Rob.

Re: i changed the opti and now

Just a note, I think recently comp no longer has that issue with the longer dowel pins. My friend just installed a cc503 and the cam dowel was the right length.. I know mine wasn't 3 years ago when I installed it.

Of course, should still be checked..
