I can't take it anymore! (surging!!!)
This can't be surge! Just CAN'T BE! I can't drive my car under 2000-2500 RPM. This means I can't drive my car in the city!!! This is like riding a horse. So everybody who got around 240 duration camshaft drives like this?? (sorry not drive , ride!) Oh and my Spec Stg 3 is done after 500 miles. Thats ridiculous. I drove 1 hour in traffic and I started to hear my clutch slipping.
If these are all because of the camshaft, I'm done! I will change it to around 210 durations.
But if the reason of this HUGE surge/shaking is not the camshaft, please tell me the another possible causes of surging. Could be Trans? (don't say tuning, its not I'm sure)

Re: I can't take it anymore! (surging!!!)
The more duration the worse the idle---power comes in a higher RPM.
Tuning is pretty much a given with any cam, but a cam of that size will doubtedly be considered an in-town car.
What did you expect when you had a cam of that size installed---or was it already in there. JMHO

My previous cam was stock. Actually my engine was stock. My first upgrade is this engine and A4 to M6 swap, so its too much for once.
BTW, I had said to my engine builder that its my daily car and also in traffic sometimes. He and lots of people here had said to me, that its not a big cam for 383. I also wanted my LSA 113 or 114 to get more drivabilty. But obviously there isn't!

How about your drivability, any surge with your 224/236 cam?

Re: I can't take it anymore! (surging!!!)
as others have said, that isnt too big of a cam since you have the extra cubes of a 383. Go with some 4.10's for your gears. There isnt going to be that much of a difference from 3.42 to 3.73. Also re-examine your tune
Re: I can't take it anymore! (surging!!!)
Well, I am certainly no expert when it comes to cams and drivability---hope that someone else will advise you here. I don't know why a 383 would take a big cam anymore than a 350 since a 383 isn't exactly a big block---again ignorant on that score.
I just know that I am running a "baby" cam 210/224 on 112 with my 350 and what I lack on top end, I maintain in the bottom while idling like a stocker.
Don't know what I'd run with your engine, but probably no more than mid -30s with a good tune 112-114.
I don't believe I would enjoy having to drive around town at 2500 RPM slipping the clutch so as to not run over the peds. JMHO

Cubic inches is cubic inches no matter what. If you put a 306 grind in a 383 versus a standard stroke and bore 350 there will be a difference, you can hear it as well.
Re: I can't take it anymore! (surging!!!)
Notice, I didn't say 'bigger" cam, but BIG cam---I believe a 383 will take a bigger cam than a 350, but a "big" cam is another story when it comes to drivability. JMHO
Re: I can't take it anymore! (surging!!!)
i can't imagine that cam in a 383 being that terrible. adjust your driving accordingly. CC306, stock shortblock and I used to sit in 1 1/2 hrs of traffic a day for 6 months, no big deal, and that was with a mail order tune

Get it tuned and checked for problems and get the drive ability tuned.
Yea it shakes the antenna.
Re: I can't take it anymore! (surging!!!)
How do you "know" it's not the tune... my LE3 is in the higher 23x range, and it surges a little with the mail order tune, but its perfectly driveable around town.
Re: I can't take it anymore! (surging!!!)
Not surprised to hear about the SPEC, is the clutch chatter apart of the problem too? My old stage 3 was like lhell under 2000rpms... I had to constantly keep it above 2K to keep the car from bucking. The car would just keep lunging forward it was crazy... IT was like I had a giant cam or something and this was on my stock cam. I could barely get around the Supermarket parkinglot. boy did I hate those times. You should try the Ram PowerGrip HD. That clutch is excellent and holds up extremely well.
