Re: Hypertech vs Madz28/PCM4LESS ???

Depends alittle on waht your looking for.

If your applying this to a stock car, they will prolly be even at first. But I know Madz will "fine-tune" your tune if you send him some datalogs. So you'll gain more from a custom tune.

If you got alot of mods like whats in your sig, custom tune by far.

Hypertech only adjusts shiftpoints, advances timing for better gas, and can change the speedo for custom tires and gears. Some can adjust the map if you have a 160 thermostat... don't remember if hypertech does that one.

I love my custom tune.. i have much more control over my car and make it feel the way i want it to in a way.

The Hypertech is a "toy" with a generic "performance" program in it. Without the 160 'stat mod, its been shown to lose HP in dyno testing. The other two guys are "pros" that tailor the tune to your specific engine combo and needs.

No comparison.

Put your money where the results are, go with the mail-order tune. Plus, the mail order tune is at least half the cost of the Hypertech programmer.

If you really want a good tune find someone around you that does dyno tuning and go see them

For 75$ you cannot beat Ion's (Madz28) tune. I just put one in the other day and it made a really big differernce up top. 3000k+ the car pulls noticably harder. Not to mention the 160* stat tuning, and no more skip shift.

Re: Hypertech vs Madz28/PCM4LESS ???

I used to defend the hypertech hand helds but like Injuneer said, without the 160 thermostat people have reported a power loss. Also, any significant modification will negate the hpp power tune.

My one car had nothing but a CAI and catback exhaust and when I did the hpp powertune with the 160 t'stat the car became a new animal. However, any problems or significant upgrades and the hpp is a detriment.

Re: Hypertech vs Madz28/PCM4LESS ???

welp. no ones saying anything about PCMforless so ill chime in here.

i had my car dyno tuned by alvin at pcmforless(he does the 93 and earler cars) and saw awsome results. at the time i had a CAI and a catback only and picked up 14rwhp and 17ftlbs from his tune. he nailed it on two pulls. i know ion also does very good work but obviously he didnt work on my car so i cant say first hand. as far as 93 specific f-bodys i have heard that the pcmforless tunes are superior to ions but again, i havent tried both. also i know the guys from pcmforless will travel to do dyno tunes if you can get a solid group of cars together. makes for even better tuneing and an awsome gathering.

thumbs up to pcmforless!

One more vote for PCMforless here, my car was giving me low colant lights and temps were rising like crazy, put in the tune an BAM all gone. Fast service and nothing to complain about. Unlike BADASS93TA, I havent dynoed it yet, but i feel a difference with the tune.

Re: Hypertech vs Madz28/PCM4LESS ???

I used a Hypertech when my car was stock and heres the dyno with 160 stat program. The red show Hypertech and blue is stock. The only features I needed were the speedo recalibration for gears and fan temp settings. Otherwise it wasn't a power booster.
