Hypertech 160 Thermostat?

I have a K&N CAI and a cutout exhaust system, if i get a hypertech 160 thermostat, will it increase the HP of my car? If so, how much? Thanks

if you do it in conjunction with a throttle body bypass i'd be willing to bet you'd pickup about 5-7 hp. it's not so much of a power increasing mod, but to just lower the operating temp of the car, to prevent some of the power being removed from you car. for the $20 i think it's well worth it.

The idea of the 160 thermo is to lower temps so that the engine is less likely to knock and thereby cause knock retard. Another supposed benefit is that given the cooler thermo you can run more aggressive timing maps. Not so sure there is a significant advantage in it, as the factory tune is considered to have a very aggressive tiing map to begin with.

Don't buy it from Hypertech. Waste of money. Buy a 160 degree thermostat from Advance Auto or some car place for $5.

That cheap thermostat is not the correct design. It is made for the SBC that has the thermostat in the intake manifold.

Drain some coolant. Take the hose off the top of the Waterpump, remove old t-stat, drop new one in, put hose back on and bleed any air out of the system. Then add as much coolant as you took out. Thats it.

Thumbs up

I did the 160 stat from hypertech on my car and works great. My car runs cooler and no problems. Also, just some advice. When you are ready to do the install, be sure to put towels around the water pump b/c water will pour out, not much but some will. Also, put towels in the TB and the MAF (if you don't have it out of the way) b/c when you are pulling on the stock stat, coolant will stat to fly when that suckah comes out. Also, either do a manual fan switch or repogram the computer to take advantage of the new stat. I've got the manual fan switch on mine. I've got some install pics on my sig

When i rebuilt my motor i put the stock thermo back in and took the 160 out. I figured now that i had extra hp i didn't need the few hp gained by it and the loss of my heater. With the stocker my car would run 225-230 constantly 215 would be the best i could pull with it in town. I couldn't stand to run a new motor that hot so i put the 160 back in and it now the max it has ever hit idling in traffic is 190. These numbers are off the scanmaster too and no fan mods. The cooler you run a engine the better it is for the life of the engine. I wouldn't think of it as a performance mod just one that makes life a little easier on your engine.

VERY TRU!

I had the cheap one, and it didn't fit right

If ur going to get a 160 degree stat, do it the RIGHT way and pay the $20 for one that is sure to work properly.
