Hydraulic lifter to solid lifter (valve train setup purposes)......

Of course, it goes without saying....don't use this in the engine for real.....label it with a permanent marker so as not to mistakenly use it.

For all the noobs here(which includes me)....here are a few pictures on how to turn a hydraulic lifter into a solid lifter.

Disassemble a hydraulic lifter....it will come apart like so....

I picked up this bolt bin from Autozone....

Pull out 1 - 25mm M8 bolt, 1 - M8 washer, and 2 M8 nuts.....

This is the order the parts are going to go in the lifter....

Drop the washer into the lifter...(provides solid foundation for bolt)....

Now drop in the bolt with both nuts on it....now the nuts are going to allow you to adjust the depth of the cup....

As I have it adjusted now it's just about perfect.....

Adjust the nuts until you can barely get the spring back in the grove to retain the cup. Lock the nuts down against each other and assemble. You now have a solid lifter to use for degreeing cam, checking lift...etc. I'm sure you can also use SAE hardware instead of metric hardware...I just had metric in my garage.

right until the very end i thought you were really going to put this in the engine for use. since its just for degreeing a cam though, seems like a good deal.

re

I was gonna say just buy some solid lifters but ok nice mod I guess ....someone will not read this the whole way through and blame you for destroying their engine.

After reading the posts by others, I can see how someone may think this is something to use in the engine for real. I moved my little disclaimer from the bottom to the top...and bolded it.....and increased the font size.

I've read about this in many places here, but never seen examples of it. I thought it would be good to post how to do it. I've also read of people grinding down bolts, threaded rod, etc. I thought this was slick because of the adjustment the nuts provided(no grinding, you have a true parallel surface...etc).
