Husrst shifter

Hey all, we have a short throw shifter and it's hard to shift into reverse. Is this normal or is there a way to adjust it?

Re: Husrst shifter

Is the shifter really hard to push to the right to enter the "reverse" shift gate? Or does it move freely to the right, but become difficult to move when you try and move the lever into 6th?

Which Hurst do you have - GM version from the "SS", Competition +, or Billet?

Re: Hurst shifter

It is hard to get it into the reverse gate, you have to really push hard to the right to get it in. Every other gear is not a problem.

Re: Hurst shifter

I assume it is the GM version. It was in the car when I bought it. It has the Hurst white ball on it.

It could be a chance the shifter ****- shaft is bolted on the wrong side. I switched sides on mine when I put my 5.0 in as it was getting into the side of console area. If your rubbing into the side might be worth a look

I don't think they offered a factory Hurst shifter in 1995. They came up with it for the SS models in 1996, and then may have made them available as on option on the Z28. It was very similar to the Competition Plus, but had a stamped steel cover rather than a machined plate, and used the stuck GM shift lever with the clunky concentric rubber bushing, rather than a real Hurst lever that bolted directly to the base unit. The SS unit had a leather shift ****.

As noted in a post above, check the reverse lockout solenoid.
