huge problem...please HELP asap, EVERYONE

welp here is the deal....GOD I hope you can help.

The started was recently replaced. The factory starter was starting to go and since I travel to car shows out of state, I can't let that happen! Well I have been having an idling problem (sorta) and when my car warms up, it idles at 500-650 RPMs. I replaced my wires and plugs with MSD 8.5 superconductor wires and Bosch Plat 4s (I think that "might" be it, keep reading). So I was fooling around with the drivers side wires and plugs and ALL the plugs are fine, look like the replacements I bought. I put the boots back on the plugs and took it out for a test drive. It was idling at 1k RPMs and felt like a BEAST again, loving it. Sounded great to. After a day or two it was back down to 500-650. I went out the other day to start my car after it was sitting for 2 days and I had to start it like 3 times (first 2 didn't turn the engine over). Then it fired up, idled high like normal, then calmed down to 500-650 RPMs. I also pushed the boots harder on the opti just to help. So does anyone think my idling problem AND starting problem are coming from the plugs/wires/opti or could it be something else? I put the plugs/wires and starter on myself and I do have good (general) knowledge of my LT1.

I'm heading to NC Sunday for a show and I'm not trying to break down so give me all the advice you think of. Hell even if its sell my LT1 I'll take it. ALL ADVICE please

and if you really say sell your Lt1, I'll come shoot you

My guess is plugs. My car started and idled like **** with a set of splitfires in there. Put some copper A/C delco plugs in there and see if that cures your problem.

yeah, your plugs or wires sound like the culprit. also check the maf/map, and the iat.

what would I check on the MAF? also where is the IAT and how do I clean it? words are great but pictures are awesome. so if anyone has some pictures that point me in the right direction, appreciate it. or thorough instructions and products to clean.

I think about it more and more and I bet the plugs are at fault. I hope I'm wrong b/c they are almost new plugs, not even a year old.

what mods do you have? the more information you give the easier it is to diagnose!! I would look at the wires again.

CAI, !Cat, MSD 8.5 mm superconductor wires, Bosch platinum 4s (which aren't doing as bad as I thought), and today I replaced the plugs and put a new fuel filter on. thats all I can think of right off hand

Are we talking 6 speed or auto? For idle problems, generally a good cleaning of the EGR valve is a good place to start.
Also are you getting an SES light?

Cool

Might spray some cat approved carb cleaner on the little wire in the mass air sensor.I've heard this helps sometimes on 94 and up.Just a couple of hits, not saturation.My02

Suggestion... when you post a "tech" question, include BASIC info, like the year of your car and the type of tranny. Not all LT1's are the same. Knowing the year of the car and trans type would be alot more helpful than seeing a list of "appearance" mods.

If you have an A4, the PCM programmed idle speed is 650rpm in neutral, 550rpm in gear. The M6 is programmed for 800rpm. See why we need to know the tranny type?

Have you had it scanned for trouble codes (not all codes turn on the SES light)?

Thanks for the help. I sensed a little "********" and "smartass" in your reply which could have been done without but anyway, I have a 1994 Z28 A4. Before this it idled around the 800-900 range but after the plugs/wires it runs smoother at WOT but idles a little lower know. Anyway (w/o reprogramming the computer) I can make it idle just a little bit higher. Its almost to the point of idling to low and making the car shake.

and thanks for all advice!

We probably could have done without that remark also. Oh, and BTW, the smarta$$ you're talking about happens to be one of the more knowledgable members of this board, so you might want to listen to him .

OK... thanks for the fine comments. In the future I'll avoid your posts.

then avoid them. I asked for help, not a jerkish reply. and let me clap for you since you are a moderator. I don't care who you are, I had a problem and you could have just replied "need your year/model/engine".

As for him knowing so much, yea good for him. But check the people out on this board, I'm sure for a fact its a few people who know a ton more about these cars then him so he isn't my only option, sorry.

I wouldn't bet on it. I also wouldn't bet on a whole lot more help since you pretty much just pissed off half the board.

good luck.
