HPP III, worth the money???

I would like to change my fan temps, and rear gears that I will be installing, and to see if it will help my shift problems. Is it worth the money?

No way, especially since LT1 edit is actually cheaper.

I have heard the Hyper reffered to as the HyperCrap. I think a PCMFORLESS.COM tune would be better. I have a 93, hence the sans Hypertune. Alvin is great. He answered a thousand questions before I even ordered mihe. Highly recommened.

No, unless you can find one really, really cheap.

O'yeah, Ion (MADZ28). I have heard alot of good thing about him. Real stand up guy. Great transaction with some injectors he bought from me. I have not dealt with his programming, but I hear he is great.

The problem with mail-order tunes, is every time you make any change to your car, some guy hundreds of miles away has wait for you to ship him the PCM, and then make an educated guess on how your car is running, reprogram it, ship it back to you, and hope it's right. That is NO flame to the mail-order programmers, most of them are outstanding. But they're trying to program a car based on what you tell them.

When I make a change, I open up my laptop. If I'm off a little, I can make another change right then and there, no waiting involved.

I do, but I dont agree with Josh. If you have the know-how, then tune you own car. If you dont, a mail order tune is a great start. Detionation can ruin your motor. Like I said, I am 93, but there are alot of 3D maps to change. Alvin can get you REAL close to the money spot. If you feel lucky, try and tweak it you self. There are plenty of resoures on the web. Here on the Compter fourm, Thirdgen.org, ecmguy and so on.

I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves here. I don't want to "tune" my wifes car, I want to change the gear ratio, adjust the fan on/off, and to adjust my shift points. As of right now under full throttle the car won't shift into second gear. It is either the band is going or it needs to be retuned. I figured I would try the retune first. I have already disconnected the battery with no improvement. So now I would like to try the reprogramming idea, plus the Hypertech could do the other stuff while I was at it.

Any thoughts?

SWINGRRR- Thanks for the kudos!

95redvert- I suppose if you're really worried about tuning your own car, the Hypertech is probably the safest and easiest way to go.

On the mail order thing....that is why you buy datamaster...so you can log runs after the initial tune and tweak it when u send in all your sensor info from the log. You can email the tune and the log files if you have a laptop (or a friend) and tunercat/lt1 edit.

I noticed an improvement in performance with my HPP3 over stock. It's very easy to use and pretty foolproof.

For a little more power for cheap add an SLP air temp module that goes in the elbow. It will tell the computer the air temperature is 57 degrees or less hence a denser air charge. There's a guy on ebay selling a "performance chip" for under 20 dollars and I'm sure it is this module.

Also add a TPS Enhancer. It's about 80 dollars or less and tells the computer to give full gas and advance at 70% throttle(some TPS's have lower percent numbers).

These 2 cheap mods that cost 100 dollars and woke up my car.

I'm gonna get a spare PCM custom tuned but plan on keeping my original PCM and HPP3 to compare and to use for winter driving on regular with snow tires or for emissions if I ever have to pass a test.

forget about the TPS enhancer..... just put your foot down faster, do a search and you'll see that they are not that great, I did.
