A few months ago I bought an engine off a guy on this board to build up and I don't know what year it is. I know it isn't a 93 because it has the newer style cross over tube on the intake, what year did they switch that? I ask because Timing chain sets say 93-94 or 95 up. If it is a 95 up block can I use my unvented opti becasuse it only has about 10k miles on it and I have had no problems with it?

Also How much power will a 2 bolt block handle are there stronger 2 bolt caps? I will of course go with ARP bolts but splaying the caps is a bit pricy in my neck of the woods.

I am planning a 383 build with a little N20 (100-200 shot)
-nodular crank atleast, probably forged
-forged rods
-forged pistons SRP or Probe (Has anyone used Probe Pistons)

94-97 fuel delivery is the same.


Timing cover differences. You can only use the unvented opti with the 93-94 cover and timing sets. That also limits your choices of timing sets.

 

Thank you Shoebox. I'll have to look at the block it's in my friends garage. Worst case senario I'll get another 93 timing cover and new timing set so I can use my Opti. Aren't the 93-94 timing sets more expensive, I'm not sure but that is usually my luck.

Hey Rob, this is kinda off subject but you don't happen to have production numbers on '93 firebirds do you? It seems you have every other peice of info.

 

I have some limited numbers for Camaros, but not Firebirds. There has to be something out there on the 'net. Google it and see.
