How to tell if Throw-out Bearing is toast?

We put my buddys 0 mile rebuilt t56 and his completly redone mcleod s/t, done by mcleod.

we installed it with all the blue marks lined up, and everything torqued to spec. when we start it, there is a bad rotational sound when the clutch pedal is out. so we pull it again, and im going after the culprits one by one. already replaced the piliot bearing, now i have my eyes on the t/o bearing, i dont want to put this back together and have any problems. I dont know if mcleod replaced it, I dont think they did, but might have, but I want to hear from you guys as to how to tell, and where can I get a t/o bearing for a mcleod clutch, (anywhere other then mcleod?).

Thanks,
James

if its a knocking tapping sound that goes away when you push the pedal in then this is normal and they all do it!

When a bad throwout bearing heats up it may prevent you from going into gear. Also a sure sign is when you shift gears you'll hear a "zingggggg".

A knocking throwout bearing is normal. I have noticed with my Camaro that it is not as noisey as it used to be or maybe I simply got used to it.

I have heard that in the Corvette owners manuals it mentions this same knocking and says it's normal and not to take it in for service.

This knocking sound, I may be experiencing this in my 550 mile old street twin. Would it be all over the board, or just at certain RPM's. Could it do it in neutral or in gear only? By neutral, I mean just the gear selector in neutral and me not touching the clutch pedal.

Also, my knocking is rather violent (at least I think). You can sometimes feel it in the floor pan, although you can't feel it through the stick.

You will only hear it when the clutch is NOT engaged. It's more pronouced when you're simply idling but will be present at all RPMs and speeds.

Yeah, I'm experiencing this when the clutch is engaged. In gear or not, but not all the time.

So even when you're pushing down on the clutch pedal you still hear this knocking? Who installed your clutch? Speak with them or call McLeod.
