How to tell if it is a POS or not

I asked this over on the Fuel and Ign forum and got no response so I'll try here. In my opti research here I saw that the ACD opti counterfeiters have gotten better at replicating the look of the genuine article. What is the latest on how to tell the difference between a cheap opti and an ACD opti? A friend of mine has what I think is a POS opti and its running like it too. Thanks for the help.

I just bought a brand new Ac Delco from the dealer. It came in the Ac Delco box that was factory sealed. Otherwise it looked like all the rest. I purchased one on Ebay 1 year ago that was said to be genuine Ac Delco and had no box. The piece of crap just went out so I said never again would I buy one there. No box, no way I would say. The one pictured looked like factory but the one I got was different slightly. It had no stickers or part number if I remember right.
