NEW WORST(S)....Thanks Cartek/CARJUNK!
NEW WORST(S)....Thanks Cartek/CARJUNK!
Well my very first run at Maple Grove today NA was a freaking serious let down by my $900 JUNK Cartek Clutch! Yep I only launched the POS at 4K RPM's side stepped the clutch and she stuck to the floor. Missed 2nd gear cause of the clutch failure on the 1st run. Let the car cool down and myself after several curse words about my CarJUNK clutch. 2nd run went up and decided the only way I'm gonna get my money out of today was to bog the car out of the hole and floor it from there so it wouldn't slip. How PATHETIC to have to do this with a "PERFORMANCE CLUTCH". Well next run netted a 12.51 at 113.78MPH w/1.92 60ft with a wonderful idle launch bog. Next run ran a 12.36 at 113.88MPH w/1.91 60ft with the wonderful bog so my CARTEK clutch didn't slip NA. Soo after this the day got even more embarrasing LOL! Next run I decide I'll do a 100shot pass. Got the bottle to pressure right, burnout ok, purged good, bog launch and uhhh come on come on uhh CRAP didn't even turn on the nitrous till top of 3rd then part of 4th and braked hard before so I wouldn't run a 11 and get kicked out early. So pretty embarrassed and ready to punch myself in the gut. Ran a 12.39 at 118MPH braking. So determined I pull up again pull out with the 100shot armed. Bang she takes off good VROOOOM missed 2nd gear OMG i can't believe this crap cause the CARTEK clutch kept slipping I couldn't get it into gear again. Ran 12.19 at 121.24MPH on that run. Soo very depressed I pull up again. Everythings a go and whoosh she is out of the hole and pulling HARD yep and while this is happening the clutch is slipping the hole way. Got her in 2nd good got her in 3rd good here we go yep I couldn't get it into 4th gear. Pulled it in 4th for like the last couple feet. Ran 11.68 at 116MPH w/1.75 60ft. Sooo crazy day let me just say like everyone else has been lately. Hey THANK YOOOUUUUUU CARTEK!!!! I appreciate the POS clutch I have the 2nd JUNK clutch might I add. SOoooo RAM Clutch will be on order soon as I get the money together cause i was gonna get a cam. Guess thats out of the question since I bought a CARJUNK clutch that can't handle 344RWHP/352RWTQ!!! Whooooohh big power there! Thank goodness I got to rent this clutch for 6,000 miles or less. Yep thats all that JUNK clutch was good for. I've had my mouth shut about this junk for too long. QUOTE ME!!! I WILL BE SPORTING A "CARTEK SUCKS" STICKER TO SLP DAY!!!
Flame away ask me if i care!!!

Sorry to hear about the clutch problems. One question though....if you were having significant problems with the clutch on the first couple runs, why did you continue to run the car? Might not be the best thing to do
Mabye I am missing something?

Why did I keep running it? I figured hell this is the last time I'm gonna run the car with this JUNK clutch and I paid $22 to get in to race. Soooo I didn't want even more money down the drain to Cartek.

Sorry to hear your having problems. Clutch woes are no fun. I know a few people with the street twin... I dont hear any complaints from them. Just something for you to think about.
Just out of curiousity have you called Cartec and asked for their opinion? Maybe they can help in figuring out why it broke.
Oh you are funny projectz28, call and get their opinion. Hmmm well I can quote them from NUMEROUS calls about this clutch from the get go!! I called ASAP after putting it in cause the clutch felt like a honda civic clutch. Yes it was smooth and had the pedal pressure of a hydraulic clutch. No probs shifting, could rev the car with the clutch in and the car didnt move forward, you could rev it with the clutch out and in neutral and push the clutch in and put it right in gear no probs. The clutch felt way different then the 1st Cartek clutch so i called. Basically it was a blame game. No help, run arounds, no returned calls, on hold, you did something wrong. Its a clutch no rocket science folks LOL! How much is the Mcleod revlok??? Or the street twin? Is it streetabel guys? I need to get a GP going ASAP cause I want the car up and running for Maple Grove May 11th.
You need to relax dude......Projectz28 was just asking if you had called them. I know you are upset, but you dont need to start acting like it is the end of the world. There are alot more people that have had more significnt problems with modifying their car than you.....it comes with the territory.
You want something to truly be upset about? Try going thru 2 trannies (synchros) with a street twin BEFORE they came out with the adjustable MC (basically them KNOWING that the clutch was not releasing fully)......was it my fault on that? Abosolutly not, but did I get stuck with the repair bills? yep. No way around it sometimes. I can go on and on as I had a similar problem with Centerforce way back in the day.....3 clutches from them on a stock LT1 car....go figure.
The problem may actually be with your clutch; however, it sounds to me alot more like your hydraulics. Also it could be related to the TOB, which I guarentee you that Cartek doesnt manufacture. I am sure they dont even make the PP....mabye they do. There are alot of variables. Then there is the install.....mabye that was no performed correctly.
Personally I still dont agree that racing your car for the rest of the day was worth it......$22 vs. a $500+ tranny rebuild vs. anything else that could go wrong? But hey, its your car

I've known projectz28 for sometime. I think he would know that I'm not being rude to him with that comment especially with saying "oh you're funny". If not then sorry projectz8 I'll let you buy me a beer at Hooters next gathering to make it up to you.
Jason, you regretfully didnt get to see the posts on tech or LS1.com. I had the master out of this thing twice and had it reverse bleed to assure that was proper. Cartek sent me the reground flywheel when the first Cartek clutch flew apart on the highway one day. And the old slave, master, with new pressure plate and disc basically. Clutch never really worked well from the get go after that. The other clutch held fine! My experience with them is extremely poor so I let people know what they may get. As you just did in your post.
I remember the Mcleod problem. Hence why i went with the Carjunk clutch
Ram here I come I guess.

Thanks for the clarification. I read the post on LS1.com and gained more info there. I am sure you will get it figured out.
I didnt want you to think that I was saying the street twin was a bad clutch by my post above either.....in fact, it is the best clutch I have ever had, and it continues to work flawlessly for me now that I have the adjustable master cylinder in it. If I would have done the ST with the adj MC in the first place, I would probably have saved $2500+
The street twins now come with the master cylinder with every clutch. That is the best clutch available IMO.

No harm done bro.
But seiously I asked because from your post it didnt sound like you had ever contacted them. And no I didnt read the LS1.com post. I dont get over there all that much. But I asked because you would be supprised how many people I have talked to about stuff and I asked that question... and they said no. They then called and the company they were dealing with and they helped to find out "why"...
I'm no where near a clutch expert, mainly because I'm an auto
. But it sounds to me like you have a hydraulic problem and the clutch going bad was not the cause... it was the result of a probelm elsewhere. Jason brought up a good point, it could also be a TOB. My geuss here is, and this is just a guess knowing the size of Cartek, is that they do not make any portion of that clutch. Its probably built by another company and they market it as their own. Or they buy the components seperately and then put together a "package".
I am supprised to hear that they give you the run around even if it was an install problem. I deal with that sort of thing every day. If a customer calls us having a problem, we will make every effort possible to find the root cause of the problem and correct it, not just fix the result and sell more parts. Even if it was their fault...
Its just good buisness for them to have atleast had you bring the car in and for them to trouble shoot it. There is a problem somewhere obviously if youve broken it twice. If I were Cartek and you called me, I would have wanted to take it apart myself... and find out why...
But dont expect them to pay for it... you do race the car.

Project, I'm not listening to you cause you run auto. LOL!!!
Good points I agree. Now I have to ask were you being a goober about dont expect them to pay for it... I do race the car? Cause that would be about the most retarded thing IMO cause this is a RACE clutch. Made to take abuse and be raced. If it can't then dont call it one. Thats like saying this is a Drag Radial but dont use it for drag racing or we wont do anything with it, if it the tread starts flying off and tire seperates do to we didnt use enough glue. Just a scenario, dont kill me.
