How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
I put in a 360 degree thermostat form hypertech about 2 years ago and the car consistanly ran the same times back to back. Well the last 2 times at the track my back to back runs have had a huge difference in time. I checked the fans and everything and they all worked. So my only conclusion was it what the thermo stat. So if it is how would i check it to see if its broken or not working properly?
Re: How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
Does the gauge on the dash still work...assuming the sender is still good it should give a constant reading...if it flucuates maybe change it...I always heard check by boiling em in water to see if they open...but if I got it out I just put a new one in they aren't to expensive...
Re: How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
Well the gauge always moved a little on me. But i tihnk this si the first time i have seen the gauge go up to around 200. Usually it will move between160-180 but never hotter than that. but i watched it last friday go up to 200. Last night it didn't go that high but ti wasn't as hot here in houston last night.
Re: How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
are u fans programmed to come on earlier with that stat ?
my fans arent programmed yet and will still go higher than 200 when very hott out or beating on the car, but at cruising its around 170

Re: How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
take it out, drop it in water in a pan on your stove. Put a thermometer in there and see what temp it starts to open at. Just don't use your pans you eat out of, or at least wash them real good afterwards.
Re: How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
How in world did determine that since you had 2 back to back runs that differed that your thermostat must be boogered? Back to back runs with no intake cool down (iced) might very well affect your hotter run.
The first time you had backs to backs which were consistant have nothing to do with this time, since the conditions may have been completely different (not to mention your driving).
If the car itself was the sole determiner of E.T.s, one would only have to go once and call it jake. JMHO

Re: How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
My reasoning is this Bubba. I bracket race 2 days a week and since I put that in the car has consistantly ran back to back runs that where either the same in time or at least within .1 of each other. As of this passed week on back to back runs the car has been jumping as high up as .4. That is my reasoning. Granted its hot as hell in htown and the humidity affects the time a lot, but you'd think if the car has been that consistant for 2 years it would just randomly start jumping like that without sometihng being wrong. At least not consistantly jumping all over the place. Plus in 2 years this is the first time I have seen the temp gauage saor over 200.
Re: How to tell if the 160 thermostat is working?
Cooler air, more oxygen, more oxygen, more power, iced intake cools down the intake air long enough to provide some cooler intake air for a short trip down this strip. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
