Hey everyone.

I'm trying to change my fuel pump.. Well it just so happens I have a full tank of gas so Im trying to syphon the gas.

Well I put the hose down the neck where you fill up.. It gets about 1 1/2 feet down and then stops.

Is there any secret to this or any easier way to drain the tank, rather than drilling a hole??

1. Unhook the plastic inlet fuel line from the intake

2. Point fuel line at your friend. Go to step4. If you have no friends go to
step 3.

3. Point fuel line at a family memeber or neighbor

4. Turn key to the ON position.

5. Don't smoke a cigarette or look directly into the hose.

You don't have to empty your gas tank to change your fuel filter. You will only lose the gasoline that is in the lines. You won't lose much trust me i did it with about 3/4 tank. Just uscrew the nut on the filter a little at a time to let most of the gas drain out.

But if you really wanna syphon the gas out you can stick a tube into you tank and you suck on the other end of the hose. Untill you can feel the gasonline coming through the hose(or its its a clear one, see the gas coming), then put the hose in a gas can. Not very hard but just make sure you do it before you start drinking the stuff. THey also sell a syphon pump. But it didn't work to tell for me back in the day.

If the pump is out why do you want to drain your tank? You are going to have to clarify more.

The pump went out after I fill the tank up.. I dont feel like dropping out a tank to get to the pump that has 15 gallons of gas..

Oh I see what you're saying now. I thought you meant the pump was physically out of the tank, which confused me. I would do a search on fuel pump swaps and you'll find what some people do which is alot easier than dropping the tank. It requires cutting a hole in the hatch area to access the pump, but it is alot easier than dropping the exhaust, rear end, and trying to get the tank in and out, especially if you are doing it alone. Good luck.

If you can ever get the tube into the gas[blow in gently you hear/feel the bubbles] try this..
I learned after the first mouthful of gas years ago to do it this way..
Take a plastic bag, etc. to seal around the siphon hose..
Blow INTO the hose [to 'pressurize' the gas tank]
quickly take end of hose and put into suitable container [the pressure in the tank will start the siphon.]
Remove bag to let air into tank.
Why you can't get the hose in there is beyond me.. what size hose are you using? [try a smaller one?]

I have never had to siphon out of the Z either tho..
I used the pump prime method once to drain tank but you can't if the pump is dead.

I can't speak for every year F body but my '97 has a screen that blocks the filler neck about a foot in. I couldn't siphon gas out of that car if I wanted to.
